The methods used by fraudsters to illegally make money have shifted throughout the years. Where once calling card fraud dominated the landscape, today the industry faces a persistent and growing threat from International Revenue Share Fraud (IRSF). Staying ahead of those shifts requires more than great software — it requires a community of professionals sharing intelligence. That is why Equinox maintains its affiliation with the Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA).
I recently had the opportunity to speak with Roberta Aronoff, CFCA Executive Director, about the organization and the value it offers to its members.
About the CFCA
The CFCA was established in 1985 by long-distance carriers and security professionals to address growing fraud problems in the telecommunications industry. Since its founding, membership has expanded to include ISPs, cable providers, law enforcement agencies, and wireless companies with a global footprint.
Member Benefits
Aronoff highlighted several benefits that make CFCA membership particularly valuable for telecom professionals:
- Access to a professional network of industry experts
- Monthly members-only webinars on fraud trends and emerging threats
- An online fraud article library
- An information-sharing collaboration forum
- The Certified Communications Security Professional (CCSP) certification program
Joining the CFCA
Prospective members apply through CFCA.org, where they can review organizational documents and learn about membership categories. The Membership Committee reviews applications. Guest attendance at educational events is encouraged as a first step for those curious about the organization.
Aronoff has served as executive director since 2006 when CohnReznick began managing CFCA. She previously consulted in telecommunications and managed the Telecommunications Risk Management Association, bringing deep industry perspective to her role.
For Equinox, CFCA membership is more than a membership card — it is a direct connection to the fraud intelligence community that helps our products stay ahead of the latest threats. To learn more about our fraud management solutions, visit equinoxis.com or call (615) 612-1200.
