Equinox Information Systems takes considerable pride in employee retention rates that far exceed industry standards. While the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports an average tenure of 4.6 years across companies, Equinox maintains an organizational average of 15½ years, with development staff averaging over 18 years.

David Bastin exemplifies this commitment to longevity. He joined Equinox immediately after graduating from David Lipscomb University, having responded to a job posting for a senior programmer — despite having no post-college experience. The interview impressed company ownership sufficiently to extend an offer regardless.

When asked about his 22-year tenure, David explained it simply: "Equinox values loyalty, and they respect my aggression towards new technologies and product features." He emphasized the company's unwavering commitment to excellence within telecommunications software.

Over his career, David has shaped multiple company products and served as a principal architect for the TeleLink application. He expanded its processing capabilities to handle approximately one billion records daily using SQL standards. He regularly participates in Protector Users Group Meetings where customers present enhancement requests — keeping him closely connected to the real-world challenges the software is designed to solve.

The extended tenure of development staff like David provides substantial institutional knowledge. The team has collectively witnessed the Bell monopoly dissolution, the emergence of soft-switches, and the proliferation of VoIP. David anticipates continued industry evolution toward mobile and interactive solutions, predicting that "our software will expand and be more powerful on the back-end in order to support more graphical and action-oriented front-ends."

Outside work, David pursues technology interests alongside his daughter, who shares his passion for computing. Happy 22nd anniversary, David.
