My coworker Lesa Grubbs and I decided to join the Susan G. Komen race for the cure to support our friend Sherri, who was battling cancer. We had been walking together for months and race day felt like a natural next step.
As we made our way through the course, Lesa and I reflected on how our relationship extended well beyond the typical Monday through Friday, 9-to-5 dynamic. We also had a relationship that extended beyond the workplace — something that, at Equinox, we consider as natural as any other part of how we operate.
At Equinox, we sincerely appreciate our customers and work hard to foster long-term relationships with them. That same philosophy shapes how we treat one another inside the company as well.
The bonds we build show up in unexpected ways. When support specialist Ernest Howell's mother passed away, conference attendees took up a collection, wrote notes, and sent sympathy cards — a deeply human gesture from people who had come to know him not just as a vendor contact, but as someone they genuinely cared about.
On race day, Lesa and I clocked our fastest time ever across any 5K distance. It was a good day — for Sherri, for us, and for the reminder that the relationships we invest in matter far beyond what shows up in a work product.
