If you subscribe to our RSS feed or keep up with our blogs, you know that we routinely profile members of the Equinox team. In fact, the blogs that focus on individual employees and their personal stories are always the most widely read and commented upon. Knowing how much Equinox values the relationships we have with each other and our customers, I’m not surprised by those blogs’ popularity.
Many of the recent blogs have focused on events and product news, so I am excited to once again get back to writing about a fellow teammate—this time the spotlight shines on Chris Lowe. It might interest you to know that this month’s blog was long ago planned to be about Chris, as he naturally bubbled up to the top of my blog to-do list. However, with Joe Herron’s recent retirement announcement, the blog on Chris took on a whole new importance. Not only do I get to introduce Chris as an extraordinary member of the Equinox Support team, but I also get to introduce him as Joe’s successor and next manager of the Equinox Support department.
While finishing his MBA from Trevecca Nazarene University in 2011, Chris began his career at Equinox as a software quality assurance (QA) tester for the TeleLink platform. Beyond his primary responsibility of ensuring the system exceeded all quality standards, he also helped improve the testing, release, and installation cycle by applying repeatable, measurable processes. The changes helped expedite customer updates and provide more consistent version tracking. Chris explains that testing includes plenty of variety—it’s different every day—and reveals that getting an advance preview of the newest features before they are installed is his favorite aspect of the job. What he likes best about the last 9 years at Equinox is the good environment. “Growing up, I pictured myself working in the financial sector. So, this isn’t my dream job; it’s even better! I like what I do each day, and thanks to Equinox’s emphasis on family first, this job allows me to live my best life...one that has a healthy work-life balance, gives me the freedom to be with my family, and pursue my passion for sports.”
Two years ago, Joe asked Chris to step up as his “right hand man” and begin learning what it takes to spearhead support for hundreds of customers around the world. To ensure a smooth transition after his retirement, Joe worked closely with Chris on issues and relied on him to help further organize and streamline product installation and delivery. As a result, customers can expect to receive the same exceptional attention and continuity of service they always have. In this new role, Chris looks forward to using his process knowledge and experience to identify potential process improvements. He is quick to point out “Equinox Support has a great team in place who will continue to take exceptional care of our customers—they are in good hands. I look forward to delving into this role and working more closely with our customers daily. One of my long-range plans is using the process knowledge and experience gained in testing to identify and implement improvements as technology and telecom evolves, particularly in the arena of customer communications.”
Chris was born and raised in Nashville, which makes him a rare #NashvilleNative. He currently resides in Goodlettsville with his wife Jessica and their three children. A former college baseball standout, Chris loves sports. Not only does he enjoy golfing, but Chris continues to play baseball in the Middle Tennessee Adult Baseball Association. This summer league includes offseason college athletes, college players who have graduated, and retired professional players who participate in challenging intermural play. To no one’s surprise at Equinox, Chris’ team has won the championship three years in a row. Chris is committed to fitness, working out three time a week, and enjoys being active and outdoors. He also loves spending time with his children, so he especially relishes coaching (his oldest son) Carson’s team. He looks forward to the spring when his youngest son Caleb will also join the team, as it is the only time they would ever be on the same baseball team.
Although Chris has been part of the Equinox Support team since 2011, he’s been part of the Equinox family for a lot longer than that...he was born shortly after his father Wayne Lowe founded the company with Byron Middendorf. Beginning in grade school, Chris worked at Equinox taking out the trash every week. You might not be surprised to know that he used the money he earned to buy baseball cards. Later through his high school and secondary education, Chris expanded this job to provide janitorial services for Equinox. He literally grew up at Equinox and knew most of his colleagues on his first day in his QA capacity.
As a long-standing member of Equinox Support, Chris understands and values the department’s mission, which is to meet and exceed expectations by providing the highest level of service and respect to both our customers and coworkers. Equinox is thankful for his efforts thus far and looks forward to his continued contributions as he moves into this leadership role for Equinox Support. Many of you already know Chris from his participation (and van driving) at the Protector and TeleLink User Group Meetings. For those of you who don’t know him yet, Chris is happy to chat and address your questions or concerns. You can reach him Monday through Friday 7:30 – 5:00 PM (Central) by calling (615) 612-1225 or by emailing support@equinoxis.com.
