Spotlight on Support—Introducing Seth

By Amy Oldham
April 23, 2018

Seth Alexander is the newest member of Equinox Support. Fun fact: his ancestry links him to William Wallace (think Braveheart)!

In the last few years, we’ve added new customers to the Equinox family. But we’ve also had many existing customers expand their current licensing, significantly increase project scopes, and/or task us to assist with additional business assurance projects. Equinox takes great pride in our customer relationships, which includes personal service for every member of the TeleLink and Protector community. That’s exactly why we decided to increase staffing in the Equinox Support team last year. Let me introduce you to Seth Alexander who joined the Equinox team in 2017. Seth’s unique blend of professional experience and technical training make him a great fit for his role in the Equinox Support department.

As a TeleLink support specialist, Seth’s primary responsibilities are to perform quality assurance testing on the TeleLink application, assist TeleLink customers, and support the other TeleLink specialists when they are installing upgrades. He also helps Joe Herron with special projects when needed. Seth brings not only an extra set of eyes and hands for the system, but he also has a fresh perspective. His previous career in the restaurant industry taught him a lot about business process models—a skill he says helps him appreciate the interoperability required to keep systems (applications, companies, processes) functioning properly and efficiently.

Seth views the role of quality assurance tester as a proactive one and relishes the opportunity to look for and deal with issues BEFORE they ever reach a customer. TeleLink is a complex, multifaceted application with a lot of moving parts. Code changes in part of the application could very well cause side effects in another area of the application if left unchecked. Because it’s his job to evaluate the entire system, he’s a user experience advocate for every TeleLink user. He’s also an advocate for his colleagues at Equinox, consistently looking for ways to perform tasks more efficiently.

Seth is pictured here with his family, which is expanding soon. He and wife Dabney expect a new arrival in June!

Originally hailing from New York City, Seth made his way to Tennessee in 2003 to attend Belmont University. After completing his Bachelor of Business Administration there, Seth jumped into the full-time role of restaurant management. During his stint in the restaurant/hospitality industry, Seth also completed a Master of Hospitality Administration online from UNLV.

Family priorities led Seth to a career change in recent years, which saw him leaping into the software development and technology industry. As an avid reader and learner, Seth easily completed technical training at Flatiron School. In fact, in addition to his own coursework, he signed on to lead study groups and assist students with their projects. After finishing that training, he began working as a developer for startup Rezli, located in Chattanooga. Thankfully, he crossed paths with us at a Belmont hiring event last year.

Seth is married to Dabney whom he met on-the-job when working in the restaurant/hospitality industry. Their family includes one son, two daughters, and a baby boy on the way—due in June. As the oldest child does not start school until the fall of 2018, Seth says there’s no time for extracurricular hobbies right now. His time off the clock is spent playing outdoors with the children or having family movie night. After the kids are in bed, Seth continues to devote time to helping Flatiron students with their projects.

When I asked what he liked best about Equinox, Seth says the atmosphere at Equinox is great and he enjoys being part of a cohesive team. He explained that problem-solving skills are his biggest asset in terms of contributing to the team. Seth is attending the TeleLink User Group Meeting this year and looks forward to meeting many of the customers he’s helped to support thus far. If you get to meet him at the event, you’re sure to like him as much as the rest of us do around here!
