“It is not in the still calm of life, or the repose of a pacific station, that great characters are formed… Great necessities call out great virtues. When a mind is raised and animated by scenes that engage the heart, then those qualities, which would otherwise lie dormant, wake into life and form the character of the hero and the statesman.” - Abigail Adams

As a global village of 7.8 billion people, the events of the last few weeks have forced us to recognize our commonality across the world. We have stared across our geographic, political, economic, religious and racial divides and found ourselves looking into each other’s eyes, seeing our own fears and anxieties reflected back to us. Our neighbors across the street and across the globe are wrapped in uncertainty regarding their families’ physical health and economic viability.

We have been called to radically modify our daily lives to slow the spread of a virus that recognizes no boundaries. By heeding the call and taking individual responsibility for the good of our community, we are seeing glimmers of hope that we are making a difference. Equinox was fortunate that we were able to immediately abandon the convenience of our offices for the safety of our homes. Steps we had taken in the last few years made the transition seamless for us.

Others around us are not so fortunate. Millions of people across the globe suddenly find themselves with no employment and no income. It is easy to look to our governments to step up and take economic responsibility. As individuals and companies, we also have an opportunity to step up, to make a difference. As a company we are immediately directing our financial resources to organizations that have structures in place to help those in need. As individuals, many of us have adopted individuals and families in our community to provide financial support to make it through this difficult time.

Equinox is a great extended family of wonderful, gracious employees and customers. Let’s all step forward to lend a hand to our neighbors, wherever they may be.
