Equinox Information Systems Celebrates 35th Anniversary

Company Honored To Serve Telecom Market Since 1986

(NASHVILLE, TN) September 1, 2021 — Leading business assurance solutions provider Equinox Information Systems is proud to celebrate the completion of 35 years serving the telecommunications industry. Currently processing over 2 billion records a day for service providers around the world, Equinox has been helping telecommunications companies protect and optimize revenue since 1986. Today, the company’s data mediation, fraud management, revenue/expense management, routing assurance, usage analytics, network analysis, and custom application solutions are deployed in virtually every sector of the telecom industry, including cable/MSOs, wireless, wireline, rural independent, CLEC, UCaaS/hosted VoIP, wholesale, and conference calling providers.

When Wayne Lowe and Byron Middendorf founded Equinox Information Systems in 1986, their primary objective was to create a great place to work. They spent the early years growing the business and developing custom software applications for companies competing in the budding telecommunications industry. As a result, the company gained a wealth of expertise with Class 5 switch databases and usage record collection from multiple switching platforms. That experience formed the basis for the company’s keystone solutions (Protector and TeleLink). Initially introduced in 1998, Protector 10.0 became the most widely installed fraud management system (FMS) in the U.S. by 2011. At the same time, TeleLink emerged as the leading solution among revenue assurance contenders in the telecom space. In 2013, TeleLink surged ahead of other mediation solutions—processing a billion records per day. This year, on the eve of the company’s 35th anniversary, Equinox is introducing a completely new version of their popular FMS. Protector 11 is not an update to the existing Protector 10.0 application; instead, it’s rewritten and rearchitected from the ground up to offer greater precision, streamlined configuration, faster response, and scalable performance.

Thirty-five years’ experience deploying solutions that address the most challenging profitability and network efficiency issues of hundreds of companies around the globe gives Equinox an unparalleled advantage in the business assurance arena. “We’ve weathered a lot of changes in telecom these past 35 years, but our commitment to creating a great work environment is unwavering,” explained Equinox co-founder and President Wayne Lowe. “Maintaining meaningful relationships with employees, business partners, and customers is a serious responsibility…one that underlies every decision Byron and I make. In fact, it was the driving force behind Equinox’s transition to an employee-owned company in 2015.”

“I recently explained that hiring nice people, those who care about others, is one of the secrets to Equinox’s enduring success” noted Byron Middendorf, who is Equinox’s co-founder and CEO. “It’s never been on a single one of our job listings, but this intangible quality is sewn into the company’s DNA. Seeing how our employees interact with each other and treat their families is all the reassurance needed to know that our customers are well cared for!”

Equinox gratefully acknowledges this anniversary is possible only because of the support, friendship, and partnership of every customer who joined this journey with them over the past 35 years. The company is also indebted to its employees, whose dedication and kindness have been pivotal and evident in forging and developing the long-lasting relationships that have stood the test of time for 35 years!
